University Calendar

For regular and extension students, the University follows a two-semester calendar of sixteen weeks of classes each. The school of Medicine may use a system of annual instead of semester course offerings. The summer education programs have a term system. The calendar for each year is prepared by the University Registrar and approved by the University Senate. Regular undergraduate programs are run usually from the second week of every September to the end of June, except for prospective graduates who stay a bit late in campus until they graduate.

Summer programs usually commence in mid-July and run through September.

Graduate education is offered from November to around mid-July; with first enrollments preceded by preparatory training of candidates in language and computational skills and research methodology – aimed at improving quality of graduate education.

Conference on “Ethiopian Democratic Transition” @ Nelson Mandela Building
Sep 28 – Sep 29 all-day

Ethiopia is currently transitioning from authoritarian rule to a substantive democracy characterized by free and fair elections, majority rule and strong minority and civil rights protections. The current administration has taken measures to relax political tension and diffuse the dangers of state collapse. However, the country is not yet securely on course to democracy. In fact, there is fear that the transition could be stalling between a comatose authoritarian system and a distant hope for democracy.

The Ethiopian Democratic Transition Conference is organized to provide a forum for exchanging views on developing a program for reforming the laws, institutions and conventions of the authoritarian regime and to hasten the march toward democratic rule. A host of experts, scholars, and policymakers will discuss policy, strategy, and social issues to establish a shared vision of a successful transition and ultimately a stable democratic polity.

By addressing an array of topics, the conference is expected to suggest steps that will help put the ongoing transition on an irreversible course. While it is a single conference, it is divided into 4 sessions, each with area experts and appropriate policymakers involved.

Given ongoing dynamics, the Center for Federalism and Governance Studies cordially invite you to a Symposium on “Democratic Transition in Ethiopia”, that takes place in the Nelson Mandella Auditorium, Addis Ababa University on Sept. 28-29, 2018 (GC). The event will bring together distinguished opinion makers, politicians from diverse background as well as researchers to shed light on important governance issues in Ethiopia.

We are looking forward to your participation.
