AAU Green Legacy Campaign-2020 Continues

Addis Ababa University (AAU) Green Legacy Campaign held at Gulele Sub City Entoto Site, planting more than one thousand trees today, 13 July 2020.

Mitike Molla (PhD), Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer of AAU said during the occasion that the University is currently intensifying its community engagement through tree planting, blood donation and food sharing campaigns.

According to Dr. Mitike, as Ethiopia is one of Sub-Saharan countries, it has always to focus on tree planting so as to minimize its Sahara Desert expansion and climate change vulnerability.

Because Ethiopia is the second populous country in Africa which needs more food and resource conservation, continuing Green Legacy Campaign to tackle deforestation and soil erosion is mandatory to ensure its existence, added Dr. Mitike.

Dr. Mitike Molla revealed that AAU has designed a strategy to plant more than one million trees throughout the five years’ Green Legacy Campaign with a main focus of indigenous trees.

Body distancing during planting must be noted to tackle COVID-19 transmission, Mitike Molla (PhD) finally advised.
