AAU Inaugurates Digital Library

For the effective and efficient operation of teaching-learning, human resources and material resources are the two important inputs to achieve the intended mission and vision of education. In line with this, Addis Ababa University, the oldest and largest university in Ethiopia is working exhaustively in improving skills and knowledge of the human resources through short and long term training and in modernizing the University’s resources to meet international standards in providing quality education.

The Inauguration of Digital Library held at John.F.Kennedy Library on May 29, 2014 is one of these activities undertaken by the University Library to deliver information anywhere and anytime for those who are engaged in knowledge and skill pursuit in the campus. The ceremony was opened in the presence of his Excellency Dr. Keba Urgesa, State Minister, Ministry of Education, Dr. Admasu Tsegaye, AAU President, several honorable guests and dean and department heads of c the university.

Digitization of library has multipurpose in higher education to meet the need of resources with increased number of students joining higher institution: saving search time, saving money allocated for buying books every year, accessibility, preservation and reservation. Thus to combat resource limitation to time and place and to modernize resource utilization, the university has digitized around 20,000 books with the cost of 37 million birr.
