AAU marks May 28

Addis Ababa University marked May 28, the downfall of Dergue regime, at Eshetu Chole Hall on May 25, 2018 under the theme ‘Enhancing National Consensus, Democratic Unity for Enhanced National Success.’

Speaking on the occasion Prof. Tassew Woldehanna, AAU President, reiterated that May 28, symbolizes the rebirth of nation, socioeconomic change and wellbeing of the nations, nationalities and people of Ethiopia.

We celebrate this glorious day, said the president, to honor the brave men and women fell in fighting against tyranny and suppression of the autocratic regime, Dergue.

“Derg regime had immersed the country in deep economic and social crisis; May 28, the collapse of the legacies of military rule, brought establishment of federal system governance with new era of democracy and development in the country. The country has registered incredible economic development of a double digit,” added the president.

As part of the event, the university president and vice presidents lit unity candle and cut cake.
