AAU President holds talk with the university community
The Addis Ababa University’s newly elected president, Tassew W/Hanna (Prof.), held talks with academic staff of the college of Natural and Computational Sciences and the College of Health Sciences of the AAU on April 25 and 26, 2018.
The discussion intended to assess potential challenges of the University that can hamper research publication, quality education, community services and customer satisfaction.
“The discussion is significantly important to sort out institutional problems and suggest ways forward to finally encourage and enhance research productivity, teaching-learning and community service,” said the President.
Based on its research publications for 2016, AAU stands 1st in Ethiopia and 1003rd in the world, said the President.
He went on to remark that the rank is very promising noting that the University still needs to upgrade academic performance to improve the university’s rank and become a research University.
Various infrastructural questions including office problem, housing, limited campus space, laboratory, lack of chemical supply and chemical disposal problem were raised from the attendees.
Budget allocated for Ph.D. students was also top agenda in the discussion. The attendees disclosed that the budget for Ph.D. students stand as constraints to publish high quality Ph.D. research papers.
The payment of external examiners for Ph.D. students and Emeritus Professors were also discussed briefly.
