Addis Ababa Institute of Technology Hosts Research and Careers Fair

AAIT today launched a campus-wide event to showcase the variety of research across the Institute and highlight faculty and students’ talents, knowledge, and innovation in several domains of engineering and technology alongside a careers fair, providing prospective graduates the opportunity to make contact with representatives from a broad range of science and technology companies presenting themselves with exhibition stands and offers at the event, including opportunities for apprenticeships.

The annual event is a university-wide celebration of research and creative activity, providing an opportunity to celebrate faculty productivity and showcase research output tailored to AAU’s priorities and broader campus interests.

The AAIT Research Fair is an annual opportunity to share the research conducted by the Institute’s faculty and students with the wider AAU community, alumni, and partners. The modes of presentation including posters and interactive demonstrations display fresh inquiry across a range of technology topics of interest to academia, industry, and the general public.

The event, which will last from May 13 to May 17, 2024, was officially inaugurated by Dr Samuel Kifle, president of Addis Ababa University in the presence of many distinguished scholars.

In his opening address, the president of AAU said, in the spirit of excellence, AAU has revised its strategic plan to become a flagship and leading research university in Africa, addressing national needs and embracing global developments. Dr. Samuel further elaborated that throughout the research week, visitors will have the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research, witness the unveiling of emerging technologies, explore the possibilities of sustainable socio-economic development and have a chance to see the technologies being developed in the university’s various institutes, colleges and units.

Speaking at the yearly event, Bikila Teklu (PhD), Chief Executive Director of AAiT, said the research and careers exhibition was organized under the theme of “Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development”, emphasizing the significant role of emerging technologies in transforming the livelihoods and well-being of people.

“The roles of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics and others in transforming the agricultural manufacturing, health and other sectors are the primary focus of this year’s theme”, the Chief Executive Director said.

Engineer Worku Gachena, Director General of Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, for his part said, “As a research and development institute, Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence to address Ethiopia’s most persistent challenges in sectors such as health care, agriculture, finance, and the public service.”

With more colleges participating in the fairs in the days ahead, there will be more opportunities unveiled for connecting AAU prospective graduates in other disciplines with recruiters as well as immersive displays highlighting the pivotal role of research within the colleges/institutes of AAU, serving as conduits of knowledge dissemination, and demonstration of its societal impact. The event will further highlight the interconnectedness of AAU’s research, teaching, and community engagement.
