Addis Ababa University Celebrates International Clinical Trials Day
Addis Ababa University (AAU) College of Health Sciences Center for Innovative Drug Development and Therapeutic Trials for Africa (CDT) organized an event for the ceremony of International Clinical Trials Day with a motto “Clinical Trials Regulation for better Health” at Inter Luxury Hotel on May 30, 2023.
Dr. Andualem Deneke Chief Executive Director at CHS of AAU, on his welcoming remarks underlined that the College has increasingly embraced clinical Trials and the staffs are more engaged on the activities; indicated that the College remains to be the leading institution in terms of Clinical Trials conducted within the country. “Considering the importance of Clinical Trials, we established investigators, participants, institutional review force and regulatory authorities,” he added.
Professor Tassew Woldehanna, President of AAU, through his representative, Abebe Assefa (PhD), remarked that the University is always committed to change Ethiopia and the Region by prioritizing active community engagement as one of the pillars of its impactful duties. The celebration of the Day has been part of its public engagement ensuring that the region has access to effective treatments through clinical trials, he intensified further.
H.E. Dr. Dereje Duguma , State Minster of Health, virtually expressed that the FDRE Ministry of Health is tirelessly working to serve the country for better health care of the public through its clinical treatment services with a motive of taking it as one among the 14 key strategic directions of the health transformation plan, he added.
Professor Abebaw Fekadu, Center Leader at CDT-Africa, stated that CDT-Africa excels for education and research in medical discovery for development based at AAU and supported by the World Bank Africa centre of excellence.
Professor Mitike Molla, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer of AAU, in her closing remarks underlined that research and researchers’ capacity will be supported and developed with the help of AAU as the Center is one of its Centers of Excellence.
The International Clinical Trials Day celebration that held for the 10th time locally and for its 19th globally was adorned with different scholarly presentations, keynote speeches, remarks and audience warm discussions.
