Addis Ababa University Scales up Global Ranking

Addis Ababa University (AAU) emerged with improved global ranking as one of the “2021 Best Global Universities in Africa” indicated by US News Global this week.

According to US News Global this year, AAU is ranked 10th among African universities, 1st in East Africa and 553rd in the world.

The University got this best Global Universities ranking position, based on the evaluation of its research performance and ratings by members of the academic community around the world and in the region.

Based on this successful realization of the University, Professor Tassew Weldehanna, President of the University, stated his triumph to the staff and the students as follows:

“This is an extraordinary achievement obtained with your hard, aligned and organized work. I therefore, would like to thank you all for the successful work and urge you to keep the moment so as to improve our rank further.”

Based on a report released by News Global last year, Addis Ababa University ranked 2nd among East African universities and 616th in the world. This shows that AAU has improved about 63 ranks globally within a year.

Addis Ababa University, the oldest and the first higher education institution in Ethiopia, is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

AAU comprises a population of about 50,000 students and more than 3,000 academic staff; has graduated more than 250,000 students during its 70-year journey; is striving for self authorization.

It owns strong digital library (240, 000 electron books, 230,000 Thesis and Dissertation collections), online Ethiopian Journal service which has online publishing platform (more than 25 journals posted), over 50,000 open access journals, more than 10,000 subscribed journal titles, etc.
