Addis Ababa University Signed a MoU with Ethiopian Prime Minister’s National Security Advisory Office

Addis Ababa University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 04 June 2018 with the Prime Minister’s National Security Advisory Office of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to collaborate on research activities related to issues of national security.

H.E. Abadula Gemeda, Ethiopian Prime Minister’s National Security Advisor, and Prof. Tassew Woldehana, President of Addis Ababa University signed the MoU.

Among the objectives of the MoU are providing evidence-based input to national security policies, sharing of research results and establishing policy research networks. The two institutions have agreed to cooperate in several related areas including capacity building in areas of common interest.

As stipulated under the agreement, the AAU has designated the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) to implement the terms of the MoU. In addition, the MoU has provisions facilitating the engagement of other institutes within the University and the creation of a network of institutions and researchers on national peace and security.

During the signing of the MoU, the parties to the agreement have expressed their enthusiasm to take imminent steps towards the implementation of this momentous agreement through the development of thematic proposals. The MoU will be instrumental in recognizing the role academic institutions should play in enhancing the capacity of the government to achieve national and regional peace and development goals.
