‘Tilet’ Club launched @AAU

The ‘Tilet’ Addis Ababa University Students Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Anti-HIV/AIDS Club has been launched on May 29, 2018. The Addis Ababa University HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (AAU-HAPCO) in collaboration with African AIDS Initiative International Inc. (AAII) hosted the launching program of the club at Mandela Hall in the afternoon.

 On the occasion, Messay Gebremariam (PhD), Director of AAU-HAPCO, in his opening warmly welcomed attendants and noted that, the university’s HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office is working towards addressing the problems of HIV and SRH among students using different mechanisms to alert students of the institution and increases awareness.

He further added that, art is the most powerful mechanism to change humans’ behavior in all aspects. Hence, the establishment of such Clubs of students can pave many ways to reach among all students and creating awareness.

Ashenafi Mulugeta, Student and Public Relation of the club, speaks about the club and explained that “TILET” is an Amharic term (“ጥበብ ለዘላለም ትኑር”) to mean “Art Shall Live for Ever”. In his presentation he mentioned that their club is established in the beginning of the 2017/2018 academic year with students from different departments who have interest in theatre arts, traditional and modern dancing, music, and poem. The club is working focusing on creating awareness about HIV/AIDS and SRH problems among university students through art. He also notifies that art has a power to change people’s behavior through entertaining.

The event was marked with numerous activities that included short drama, poem, traditional and modern dances with DJ and talent shows.
