Program Objectives

The accounting curriculum is designed with sufficient flexibility to prepare students for the many career options available to accounting graduates. Among the principal career options are public accounting, private accounting, not-for-profit accounting and other business consulting or finance flavored careers. That is, the program aims at developing graduates who are capable of handling current and future accounting, auditing and finance practices in private and public institutions and other economic sectors of the country.

The centrality of accounting in business practices makes it an ideal field within the business curricula. Thus, the program is particularly designed:

  • To respond to the needs of the country for higher-level accountants, auditors and financial managers;
  • To spot and resolve practical organizational problems and enhance the standards of the profession by making instructors and students actively participate in applied research;
  • To support the efforts of organizations in designing and/or improving their accounting and internal control systems and in upgrading the skills and knowledge of their employees by conducting short-term training for their employees and by giving consultation services;
  • To enable students to be equipped with the relevant analytical and critical thinking, oral and written communication skills which are relevant to their field of study;
  • To expose students with new developments in information technology relevant to the prospective positions they are expected to assume in the world of work in the area of accounting, auditing and finance.
  • To help students become responsible citizens of the nation committed to all sorts of efforts meant for enhancing the economic welfare of the country, Ethiopia;
  • To ensure that the curriculum meets the requirements of stakeholders and maintains the international standards of the field, and contributes to the development of the profession; and
  • To promote faculty’s competency through professional development schemes so as to help them compound their service to the community.

Admission requirement

The admission requirement to the program will be as per the policy of the MOE for admission of students to colleges and universities.
