Experience sharing

CBMP has conducting different capacity building interventions like experience sharing to achieve its’ objectives. A total of 30 health worker were selected from Lideta sub-city health facilities and involved on HIS experience sharing. The experience sharing program was on HIS implementation paths; activities conducted in preparatory, planning and intervention phases; performance progress; and challenges faced and provided solutions.

Productive discussion was undergone  between participants. The visiting health centers were very much pleased about the experience sharing and assured that they have gained a lot and promised to do much better than the previous.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

CBMP used approaches working with stakeholders to strengthen HIS; addressing the determinants of data quality and information use; promoting digitalization; and contributing to the evidence base through research and documentation.

Research Outputs

Graduate Tracer study

CBMP has conducted Graduate Tracer study and disease classification mapping. To reinitiate the Health Informatics Master’s program, graduate tracer study was conducted. This study assessed the program contribution, quality, competency and satisfaction of Health Informatics master program graduates.  A total of 172 professional graduated between 2007 to 2016.  The graduates of the program have key positions in governmental and non-governmental organizations. The study found that overall Health informatics master’s program contribution on graduates were very good and overall education process of the program were highly satisfactory.

ICD 10 to NCoD Mapping

CBMP has tried to overcome diagnosis encoding problem of TASH by doing ICD-10 to NCoD Mapping. Above 72,000 diagnoses were mapped from ICD-10 to 2055 categories under NCOD. The mapping substantial change in the utilization of NCoD among health care workers were encountered. It will enhance the diagnosis of new cases and prevent missing and inappropriate recording and reporting by cultivating standard ways of procedures so that disease burden and trend can be captured. It can be input into the revision of NCoD. Furthermore, the use of NCoD will shows the diagnostic capacity of the health facility in terms of human and material resources at Tikur Anbesa Specialized Hospital.

Ongoing Researches

About 12 research problem were identified and protocol is under development. DDCF supported masters level students’ studies includes

  • Population-based cancer registry data quality;
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): current status, implementation barriers and associated factors;
  • Health information system and behaviors of health professionals;
  • Routine health care data use practice among health professionals and managers;
  • Data quality and information use practice of private health facilities and linkage with public health system;
  • Implementation of District Health Information System (Dhis2) and its contribution on data quality and information use;
  • Data quality and information use in public and private hospital, comparative study.
  • CBMP also undertaking DDCF supported implementation science research on HIS strengthening initiatives.
  • Furthermore, CBMP has supported three Sub-Cities to do capstone project on the topics of knowledge management for the improvement of data quality and information use practice in Lideta sub-city; improving quality and use of data through mentorship and supportive supervision in Yeka Sub-City; and improving healthcare data quality through quality improvement intervention in Akaki Kality Sub-City.

Review Meetings

CBMP annual review meeting was conducted in October 29 / 2019. The review meeting was started by warm welcoming remark of Proff Damin H/Mariam, Dean of School of Public health; and continued with opening speech by Mrs. Biruk Abate, FMoH PPD Director. The review meeting proceeded with presentation of 2018/19 performances and 2019/20EFY plan of the project.  Aim of the presentation was reviewing the performance of CBMP implementation in 2011 EFY, celebrate success and identify areas for improvement. In addition, introduction of the EFY2012 work plan and getting all the sub cities on the same stage in understanding the plan for EFY2012.
