Brief Biography

Dr. Menen Ayalew is the first female cornea surgeon in Ethiopia.

Following a Medical Doctorate degree from Addis Ababa university medical faculty, she completed her postgraduate training in Ophthalmology at the same University and faculty, in the department of ophthalmology.

She then did subspecialty fellowship training in Cornea and external eye disease at the University of California San Francisco.

Since then, her main area of clinical practice has been Cornea and complicated cataracts, with a rank of assistant professor at the School of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University, department of ophthalmology, Menelik II Referral hospital.

She is serving in the different committees of the department and was also department head.

She has an additional commitment at the Eye bank of Ethiopia where she is the medical director and secretary of the board of trustees.
