Brief Biography

Dr. Yilikal Adamu Bizuneh is a teaching staff in the department of Ophthalmology with the rank of associate professor at the School of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University and a consultant Ophthalmologist at Menelik II Referral Hospital. Following a Medical Doctorate degree from Gondar College of Medical Sciences(AAU) now called Gondar University in 1990, he completed residency training in Ophthalmology at School of Medicine, Addis Ababa University in 2000. He then went to USA for one year subspecialty fellowship training in Oculoplastics, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery at Storm Eye Institute, Medical University of South Carolina.

Since returning to Ethiopia in 2003, his clinical practice and research have focused on Trachoma, Lacrimal and Orbital conditions, as well as other eyelid abnormalities.

At the department of Ophthalmology, Dr Yilikal is the head of Ocloplastics Unit and represents the department and other ophthalmology teaching institutions of the nation at the National Committee for Prevention of Blindness (NCPB) which is a National Advisory body for the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH).
