Under this topic, activities scheduled for the year 2009 are indicated.

Lectures

The 2nd Workshop shall be on Alternative Energy Technologies, applicable to Ethiopia, which would focus on:

· Renewable Energy Resources and Technologies;

· Principles and Applications of Photovoltaic Systems;

· Principles and Applications of Wind Energy Systems;

· Principles and Applications of Solar Thermal Systems;

· Energy Conservation and the Environment.

At least 2 workshops on current issues related to energy shall be conducted. 

Experts in the respective disciplines shall be invited for the lectures.

The 1st Workshop shall be on Bio-fuel Technologies which would focus on:

· Development and processing of bio- and alternative fuels;

· Development of bio-fuel production plants;

· Design concepts of bio-gas plants;

· Principles of bio-diesel production and applications;

· Processes involved in the production of bio-ethanol fuels, their properties and applications.

Workshops

Short term lectures on Energy Applications, Energy Conversion and Conservation, Energy Auditing and Optimization, etc. shall be conducted. 

 

Target groups of these lectures are:

· Federal Ministries of Infrastructure and Rural Development;

· Rural Energy Development and Promotion Center;

· Regional Mines, Water and Energy Bureau;

· NGOs involved in rural developments;

· Regional Planning Bureau;

· Energy-Consultancy enterprises.

 

Experts in the respective disciplines shall be invited for the lectures.

MSc Programme

The interdisciplinary MSc programme in Energy Technology shall be coordinated by the Energy Center at the Faculty of Technology.

 

The following participating departments will offer courses and make their facilities available for the smooth running the programme:

 

      Physics Department:

· Solar energy data analysis;

· Photovoltaic.

 

      Civil Engineering Department:

· Hydropower plants;

 

      Chemical Engineering Department:

· Biofuel technologies;

 

      Electrical and Computer Engineering Department:

· Photovoltaic;

· Electrical power generation and transmission.

 

      Mechanical Engineering Department:

· Solar thermal applications;

· Hydraulic turbines;

· Wind turbines;

· Conventional energy conversion.

 

      External Experts:

· Energy Economics;

· Energy Policy Management;

· Biomass Energy Conversion.

The MSc programme shall be launched starting September 2009.

 

Organizations and  regional offices that are interested to train their staff and individual candidates  as well are invited to attend the programme.
