College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University has celebrated Research Day for the first time in a special and colorful ceremony the college has organized on June 7, 2013.
Themed as “Research for Better Health and Education”, the purpose of this research day was to create awareness among the college community and the public at large on the various health research activities as well as recognizing outstanding researchers in the College.
AdmasuTsegaye (PhD), President of AAU in his opening remark said “we need to communicate research outputs also to the community. This is because our currency is reputation and research is a play ground where reputation is made.”
Addis Ababa University has celebrated the 22nd Anniversary of Ginbot-20 in a special ceremony the university has organized at main campus.
Panel discussions, poems and musical drama were part of this special occasion, which marked the 22nd Anniversary of the fall of the dictatorial regime and the coming into power of a new democratic Government with federal structure and having a new constitution with the provision of the human and democratic rights for the whole nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia.
Addis Ababa University Press is running the yearly Addis Ababa University book fair for the 7th time. The book fair would stay in line for a week from May 27-June 2, 2013 at the main campus of the university. The book fair was opened by Admasu Tsegaye (PhD), AAU President, in the presence of the AAU community, invited guests and people in the book industry.
Addis Ababa University in partnership with US Embassy at Addis Ababa has hosted the BBC HARDtalk special program at RasMakonnen Hall, Addis Ababa University, on 26 May, 2013.
US Secretary of State John Kerry participated in this “Youth Connect" event with young people from all over Africa and students from Addis Ababa University on the issues that mattermost to them. Hosted by the BBC HARDtalk's ZeinabBadawi, the special program has featured questions posed by an audience of young people from across the continent direct to Mr. Kerry. Mr. Kerry reacted to the questions posed by the young Africans about Africa, United States foreign policy and about his country's relationship with the rest of the world. He also reacted to the questions sent in by BBC viewers and listeners from around the world on matters related to Africa and US foreign policy.
More than 250 people from all over Africa attended this HARDtalk special program.
This special event has marked 50 years Anniversary of African Union.

AAU launches new center
Addis Ababa University in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture inaugurates African Center for Disaster Risk Management (ACDRM) in a special ceremony the University has organized at the College of Natural and Computational Sciences’ Conference Hall on April 19, 2013.
In response to the ever increasing frequency and intensity of disasters in Africa and in particular in the Region, the Disaster Risk Management and Food Security Sector (DRMFSS) of Addis Ababa University and the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (CORDAID) and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) have established the African Centre for Disaster Risk Management.
