The school was reopened in 2004 after three decades. It has begun with a masters program with two Ethiopian staffs. Immediately after the first masters’ graduation, the first PhD program was lunched in August, 2006. Many Social work professors from all over the world thought in the school. The school has established a partnership in 2004 with Jane Addams College of Social Work, University of Illinois at Chicago. Vision and Mission of the SchoolVision of the School: Social Justice realized in Ethiopia with the Graduate School of Social Work, as a leading institution of Social work education in Africa, excellent in teaching, research, consultancy and public service.
Mission: The Graduate School of Social Work, Addis Ababa University exists to contribute to equity and social justice in Ethiopia by undertaking quality research, promoting excellent in teaching, developing a professional knowledge base, producing capable social workers and empowering people and communities.
