 Name: Department of  Afan Oromo and Literature

Pursuant to the promulgation of the New Education Policy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in 1994, Afan Oromo has become media of instruction in primary education, and is taught as a common subject at all levels in the Oromiya Regional State. The department of Afan Oromo and Literature is launched in 2010/11 academic year. The department of Afan Oromo and Literature, Faculty of Language Studies, AAU, is making considerable effort to produce qualified editors, literary critics, researchers,Oromo language and literature teachers, as well as competent personnel who will be engaged in preparing teaching materials and designing curricula for teaching the language in primary and secondary schools.Presently, however, there is an acute demand for highly qualified Oromo language and literature professionalas and teachers, particularly at MA level, for the universities, colleges and TTI’s engaged in training teachers for the primary and secondary schools.
