Recipients of the Aster Zewde Memorial Scholarship Fund Announced

Addis Ababa University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the representatives of the Aster Zewde Memorial Scholarship Fund in September 2011. The scholarship fund was established in memory of the late w/z Aster Zewde who has served in various positions of responsibilities that promote gender equity.

The scholarship fund was specifically set up to support and encourage academically accomplished female students in the Faculty of Language Studies of AAU by providing a monthly stipend. After a thorough vetting by a committee established for this purpose, applicants’ achievements and potential were assessed from whence the first five recipients were selected. The five winners of the first ever Aster Zewde Memorial Scholarship Fund are:

-          Akeza Haile Kahsay (English, 4^th year)

-          Ekram Adem Mohammed (English, 4^th year)

-          Melesech Haiemariam Soramo (English, , 4^th year)

-          Melkam Cheru Ayalew (Ethiopian Literature and Folklore, 3^rd year)

-          Zemzem Abdurhaman Sheka (Arabic, 3^rd year)
