Introduction

 

The revised program takes in to account the agreed curriculum by the national universities and the guidelines given by Higher Education Strategic Center and the Council for higher education of the Ministry of Education. The curriculum envisages the expected English language competence of graduates and the professional services that they are required to give for the public and private sector. Courses that help candidates of the program develop language and linguistic skills and abilities and professional competencies are considered and included.

 

Program Description

In Ethiopia, English is a medium of instruction at secondary and tertiary levels. Besides, it is used as an official language in many international and some national organizations. These and other uses of the English language show its significance in this country. To this end, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in English Language would offer a wide range of learning experiences to acquaint students with the breadth and diversity of English studies. The intended program would integrate a broad range of courses combining both theoretical and practical approaches in English Language Studies. The course of study in general would include: General English Skills, Linguistics, Literature, and Journalism & Communication. Earning a BA Degree in English Language would enable students to pursue careers in editing, writing, research, interpreting, broadcasting and public relations. Besides, the study would develop a strong background in English Language.
