The Faculty of Technology, Civil Engineering Department, is pleased to announce that it has entered into partnership with the University of Connecticut in order to launch a project under the title

Ethiopian-US Water Partnership to Enhance and Empower Higher Education Institutions in Africa and the United States in Sustainable Development and Management of Water Resources

The sponsor of the programme is Higher Education for Development.

The Name of the Programme is Africa-US Higher Education Initiative Planning Grants.

Objective of the Programme

Transform the role of Higher Education Institutions in Ethiopia in accelerating economic development of Ethiopia and the well being of its citizens by producing the next generation of its citizens by producing the next generation of water professionals who are capable of developing and managing existing water resources to solve the country’s development problems

Specific Objectives of the Programme

- to establish a partnership among US and Ethiopian institutions in Sustainable Water Resources Development and Management,

to assess the current capacity of HEIE in the water sector, identify gaps and define priorities for capacity building and (3) to develop a strategic plan to achieve the above goals and vision based on the outputs of the first two objectives and past and ongoing partnerships and paradigms.

Budget

- The total budget of the project is USD 50 000.

Workshop

- There will be a kick-off workshop on the 30th of June, 2009 at premises of Faculty of Technology (North Campus).
