Takkele Taddese Defends his PhD in  Linguistics after  Retirement.

The Department of Linguistics was established in the academic year 1978-79, as one of four departments constituting the Institute of Language Studies (ILS) which was founded during the same year. The Department has the objectives of training students who could help in the documentation, codification and modernization of the minority languages of the country, who could do the groundwork for the development of literacy programs in the various languages, and undertake basic research towards the preservation of the linguistic heritages of the country.

 Linguistics

Linguistics is a branch of science which studies the systematic structure, social and individual characteristics of the most essential and broadly used way of communication, that is, human language from both theoretical and applied viewpoints. As a result of ongoing advances in science, contemporary linguistic investigations are now carried out within a variety sub-branches and language phenomena are studied also from broader perspectives of interdisciplinary attempts.
