Overview 

The history of the present professional and Vocational Education Program Unit goes back to the late 1960^s (1967) when the Department of Technical Teacher Education (TTE) was established with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, the then Haile Sellassie I University and the United States Agency for International Development. The department of TTE had three divisions, namely, business education, home economics education and industrial education, all at a diploma level.

These divisions ran until late 1980^s contributing the lion’s share to the staffing of the comprehensive secondary schools in various vocational areas. As of 1986, the business education division was raised to a first degree level to serve the need for better qualified staff in this vocational area. In 2005 the Department of Business Education further strengthened its program by including post graduate programs in Management of Vocational Education and Marketing Management Education to strengthen the management of the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Currently, following the recent restructuring of the various units of Addis Ababa University as a result of the BPR strategy, the Professional and Vocational Education Program Unit (PVEPU) came into being as an outgrowth of the former department of Business Education. At the moment the unit has the following programs with regular, extension, in-service and distance delivery modes:MA in Management of Vocational Education,PhD in Management of Vocational Education,M.SC in Educational Technology, Postgraduate Diploma  in hard skill and soft skill vocational subjects.
