HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Director Office of the University has the following duties and responsibilities.
Employ the Education Sector Policy and Strategy on HIV/AIDS and national strategic framework for addressing the RH needs of young people;
Proposes policy, strategy & procedures on HIV/AIDS prevention and control affairs of the university;
Equip the student clinics to provide Youth-Friendly Services
Handles the overall HIV/AIDS issues of the university with shared vision with the University management team;
Sets the general direction of the university HIV/AIDS activities in line with the development goals of the country;
Prepares projects and search funding sources to accomplish its duties
Advertises and creates awareness on the HIV/AIDS prevention and control issues to the university community;
Advises the President on the status of HIV/AIDS prevention and control issues and on the remedial measures to be taken;
Establishes as required linkage with national and International (governmental or non-governmental) stakeholders working on HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities;
Establishes and/or strengthen a coordination and implementing mechanisms (management committee, coordinating office, task force/focal person, and monitoring and evaluation);
Facilitates mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS, SRH and gender issues into the curricula, research, training and community service;
Establishes AIDS Resource Centre and establishes link with national and regional resource centres;
Strengthen the on going HIV and AIDS education activities (Peer education, mentorship, life skill training, University community conversation);
Expands and strengthen HIV and AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health service (HIV Counseling and Testing, Sexually Transmitted Infection diagnosis and treatment, and Anti Retroviral Treatment service) and/or establishes referral linkage;
Initiates and/or strengthen services to groups with special needs;
Identifies and improves/changes/or demolishes physical or environmental factors that predispose University Community to HIV/AIDS and SRH related risky behavior;
Establishes and/or strengthen networking, partnership and think thank group;
Support social marketing initiatives to promote correct and consistent condom use;
Conduct Mentoring program to support students to become successful personally academically, and socially in campus life;
Promote the utilization of youth-friendly services;
Use Social Media to promote discussion and public health messages;HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Director Office (AAU-HAPCDO)
