IT Doctoral Program

The primary objective of the IT Doctoral Program is to build the candidates capacity to identify and solve problems related to IT development challenges in Ethiopia by applying technical and scientific methods and innovative tools independently. The program aims at preparing the candidates for successful academic and professional careers in both the national and the international market. It focuses on areas that are most relevant to the needs of the country, takes into account the national capacities in the field and include advanced-level issues in the following areas: software engineering, information systems, information retrieval, language technology, wireless communication systems, and IP networking and mobile Internet. The specific objectives of the program are to:

  • Produce highly trained human resource in IT for higher learning institutions as well as other sectors,
  • Enable the student to understand the fast changing information technology and to be able to use emerging opportunities,
  • Develop in the student the ability to work in teams, to have the sense of co-operation, and initiate, promote and foster research in the various disciplines of IT.

Within each of the specialty track, candidates have the opportunity to focus their research on a number of more specific areas based on needs and each research-group’s capacity.
