Director’s Message

Addis Ababa University Press (AAUP) was set up more than five decades ago in the year 1967. The Press has been serving as the publishing house of Addis Ababa University. The main objective of its establishment was to address the publishing and dissemination requirements of the University community. In line with this, the Press is expected to provide a key role in publishing reference and teaching materials, text books and also state of the art research results for tertiary level Universities in the country. AAUP has so far published many treasured books in different areas of specialty. These include, but not limited to biology, botany, chemistry, climatology, geography, history, hydrology, languages, public health, engineering, politics, sociology, etc. Autobiographies, diaries and dictionaries have been also focal areas of publication for the Press. Most of the AAUP outputs are internationally recognized for their high academic quality (AAUP booklet).

AAUP receives manuscripts from staff members of AAU and from the intellectual community both in the country and outside. Currently, the Press is accepting increasing number of submissions of manuscripts outside of thematic projects, from academic staff members of AAU. Based on the assessment of the published books over the years, there is an increase in terms of titles, field of specialties and quality of the publications. The AAUP, employing independent and anonymous review approaches, has so far been playing a crucial role in sustaining quality, orginality and standards of the educational materials and books.
