AAU Holds eLearning and AI Policy Validation Workshop

AAU hosted a half day workshop on its draft AI policy and eLearning guidelines with participants drawn from key areas of research and scholarship allied to educational technologies and AI applications.

The workshop on e-learning, digital education and AI was an emblem of the recent  technological advancements by AAU as it aspires to consolidate its  position of leadership in Ethiopian higher education .

In his keynote address, AAU AVP Dr Jeilu Oumer said the university has been developing eLearning and AI policies based on the national policy framework in the higher education sector ahead of preparations to launch eLearning and digital education alongside traditional in-person modalities.

The policies are undergoing revision based on feedback from stakeholders, the AVP said.

AAU president Dr Samuel Kifle earlier said progress in the adoption of eLearning and AI is an important step in the university’s efforts to gain more traction as a leading university in Africa.

The president further said the draft AI policy outlines principles for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence , including generative AI, in all forms of education and assessment , adding the intention is to promote ethical use of AI, ascertaining its  potential is fully exploited  while associated risks and challenges are identified and mitigated.

It was also mentioned that AAU will work collaboratively  with stakeholders  to share best practices as AI applications in education, research , administration and other areas  evolve.
