AAU,  Ministry of Justice Ink MoU

The Academy of Ethiopian Languages and Cultures (AELC) of Addis Ababa University (AAU) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of the FDRE, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of an application for an orthography of law and justice texts and associated software facilities.

Zinawork Assefa (PhD), a researcher at AELC who is involved in the project, stated that the 18-month project is expected to lead to the production  of orthographic  guidelines, a spelling checker tool, an automatic word searching tool, new legal legal terms , and a training manual among others, to enhance the quality of the administration of justice by helping to overcome the complexity associated with legal jargon.

The outcome of the present project will allow users to have automated  access to the exact, and  authoritative meanings of legal terms in cases, statutes, and other legal documents which will be an important facility to correctly understand judicial communication for parties involved in litigation or law enforcement.

H.E. Gedion Timotios (PhD), Minister of  Justice, and Samuel Kifle (PhD), President of AAU, after signing the agreement, said they will monitor the progress of the project and once the it is completed  possibly cooperate in other projects of mutual interest.
