Addis Ababa University Joins in Nationwide Tree Planting Campaign
AAU took part in the nation’s Plant Six Hundred Million Seedlings campaign, which aims to restore and protect forests across the country as part of the global program of resolving the crisis of climate change and biodiversity loss.
The AAU native tree planting event at the Gulele Botantanical Garden in Addis Ababa was a part of the local solution to the global problem.
Dr Samuel Kifle, the president of AAU, said the university is proud to participate in the world’s biggest tree planting program.
The president further said, “We are very aware that the National Green Initiative has become a model to beautify all campuses of our university as well as to create a more conducive environment for work.”
Dr. Solomon Kiros, Acting Director of Community Engagement at Addis Ababa University, stated that the University has paid due heed to the Green Legacy and the university community has planted many trees on its own initiative.
For her part, Elisabeth Woldekirkos, director of Addis Ababa University’s property management directorate, said she was very satisfied with the participation in the green legacy program and that planting trees on a large scale would contribute positively to the creation of a suitable climate for all.
In keeping with the mass reforestation efforts to heal the nation’s ecosystem, AAU has been active in the nation’s program of fighting climate change, greenhouse gasses, global warming, carbon emissions, and deforestation since recent years.
