Program Objective – the BA program in Journalism and Communication at the AAU aims to equip students with knowledge of media, the skills of journalism and mass communication theories. The initial emphasis is on journalism with students choosing broadcast media with its Radio/TV journalism concentrations. The program also emphasizes the integration of critical journalism with media theory, democracy theory and development theory.

Admission requirements – Since this is a professional school the department has to have an academic privilege to recruit its candidates. Those who successfully completed preparatory secondary education (from science and social science streams) and those who have physical and mental fitness are required to meet the following criteria:

Academic achievement:

  • College entrance exam………………………40%
  • Average grade points of grade 11& 12………30%
  • Interview and test talent on microphone and camera
  • 9-12 grade- school Mini media experience……..30%

Major assumption of admittance to the department

  • 20% for female participants
  • 10% reserved for students from disadvantaged areas to compete among themselves
  • The remaining 70% would be competed among female and male students. For equal scores, priority will be given to female candidates.

Graduation requirement – in order to qualify for graduation, students are required to have fulfilled the following:

  • Overall ECTS of 192.1
  • CGPA and MGPA of at least 2.00
  • No “F” grade in any course taken.
