Graduate profile

A graduate with an MSc in Tropical Animal Production and Health is expected to:

• Be competent in the practice of animal production and health, including animal nutrition, breeding, housing and health management with emphasis on the tropical agro-climatic conditions;
• Be equipped with knowledge and skills in handling and solving production and health problems under different farm animal production systems, technical planning and management of animal production and health research, teaching and development program;
• Display creativity, social consciousness, professional ethics and a sense of responsibility to work toward national goals and development.

Program objectives

General objective

• The general objective of the program is to produce qualified specialists in the area of animal production and health equipped with sufficient theoretical knowledge, practical skills and latest scientific techniques to deal with the interaction between husbandry and health in production systems adapted to the tropical region.

Specific objectives

• To offer specialized training that leads to an MSc Degree in Tropical Animal Production and Health;
• To provide sufficient knowledge to animal science professionals and veterinarians with the latest knowledge and skills in animal nutrition, breeding, housing and health management;
• To strengthen the teaching and research activities of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and related teaching and research institutes in Ethiopia as well as in East and Southern African Regions.

Graduate profile

Knowledge: Graduates of the program will have advanced knowledge in identifying and formulating scientifically complex problems as well as in critically evaluating information and formulating possible solutions in the areas of animal production.

Skills: Graduates will have advanced skills to communicate knowledge at theoretical as well as applied scientific levels in the areas of animal production.

Attitude:   Graduates of the program will exhibit positive changes in their social consciousness and professional ethics with a sense of responsibility to work towards national goals.

General objective:

The general objective of the program is to impart quality to higher education and increase knowledge base in the field of animal production.

Specific objectives:

• To produce highly qualified experts who are equipped with advanced and up-to-date theoretical knowledge, practical skills and scientific techniques in the area of animal production;
• To respond to the current demand by higher education, research and development institutions in the country for highly qualified experts in the area of animal production;
• To widen the knowledge base in animal production in Ethiopia by undertaking problem-oriented quality research through PhD dissertations.
