University Autonomy Consistent with South-South Solidarity Frameworks: Dr Samuel Kifle, AAU President

Addis Ababa University and the Organization of Southern Cooperation today held a public lecture titled “Education Systems: Perspectives and Practices from the South ” in commemoration of the proclamation of the International Day of the Universal Declaration of Balanced and Inclusive Education.

 President of Addis Ababa University, Dr Samuel Kifle, who spoke on the occasion, said Ethiopia’s new curriculum is based on the nation’s needs, priorities, and aspirations and in keeping with relevant international principles and conventions, adding Addis Ababa University’s progress towards full autonomy is in line with the guiding principles embodied in the South-South cooperation framework.

The AAU President further indicated that the Universal Declaration on Balanced and Inclusive Education (UDBIE) ratified by 28 states in Djibouti four years ago is being fruitfully implemented in Ethiopia, which , as a signatory to the Declaration, has embraced the pillars of Intraculturalism, Transdisciplinarity, Dialecticism and Contextuality in its system of education.

The public lecture was given by Professor Abdeljalil Akkari from the University of Geneva and Professor Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou from the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin Republic.
