Objectives of the Program: The program will help address the health burden in speech, language communication and swallowing disorders and improve educational service provisions; thus leading to increased access and utilization of community and educational resources by the millions of people who have not received these services so far.
- General Objectives
- To alleviate the burden of the country in the area of communication and swallowing disabilities and provide evidence based support to children and adults with speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties.
- To create and facilitate preconditions that will help translate legislation, policies and guidelines into action in relation to Special Needs and Inclusive Education.
- Specific Objectives of the Program
- To produce professionals in Speech-Language Therapy who can identify and asses the problems and potentials of different persons with speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties and provide evidence based interventions.
- To produce resource persons who work with schools, home, health care centers and local community; promote healthy living and prevent potential disabilities; empower and encourage regular school teachers to use alternative and supportive teaching approaches and improve quality of learning in all settings.
- To facilitate the inclusion of children and youth with speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties into regular schools and communities with the appropriate attitude, skills and knowledge.
- To produce SLTs who can render training and support to parents, caregivers, teachers, health workers, etc. so as to prevent the exclusion of persons with speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties.
- To produce SLTs who can construct and administer various intervention based assessment tools so as to confirm the existence of speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties and their diverse nature.
- To produce SLTs who can conduct research in the areas of persons with speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties.
Admission requirements: This program admits candidates who fulfill any of the following criteria:
- Have a college diploma and above in the field of special needs education and nursing or related field after completing secondary school.
- Minimum of two years of relevant teaching and working experience after holding the diploma.
- Have a CGPA of 3.00 and above in diploma program.
- Completed University preparatory with high grades.
- Candidates are also expected to pass written and oral entrance exam prepared by the department.
Graduation requirement: In order to graduate from this program, prospective graduates must:
- Successfully complete all the modules with a total of 192 ECTS
- Major courses 167 ECTS
- Supportive courses 25 ECTS
- Total 192 ECTS
- Have a CGPA of not less than 2.00
- Have no ‘F’ in any of the courses
