Job Fair and Cooperation Enhancement Meeting at AAU’s Main Campus

Addis Ababa University (AAU) Students’ Career Development Center organized a Job Fair and consultative meeting with industries to enhance employability of graduates at the Main Campus today, the 5th of Oct. 2021.

Professor Tasew Weldehanna, President of Addis Ababa University, said, although there are a lot of opportunities for the young to join higher education institutions, the fact that they are eligible to enter various public and private sectors for jobs, has remained a problem.

According to Prof. Tassew, the number of job-seeking graduates is very high and, on the contrary, the small number of job opportunities created has made young university graduates more vulnerable to economic and social crisis.

Addis Ababa University established a Students’ Career Development Center (SCDC) in 2018 to work on increasing recruitment chances by building the life skills of its graduates and cooperating with hiring industries, Prof. Tassew stated.

According to Prof. Tassew, the Center has been providing training in soft skills development, job creation, communication, job search as well as CV writing.

“After providing basic skills training at various colleges, the Center tries to connect the graduates with different employers and industries; the purpose of this year’s show is to accelerate this connection,” Prof. Tasew stressed.

Kassu Jilcha (PhD), Director for SCDC, said, it is necessary to work hard as the relationship between AAU graduates and employers has not been satisfactory in the past, though the cooperation has been improving year after year.

Mr. Bone, from Huawei Technologies said they have established strong relationship with AAU and opened a big ICT Academy in the University; one of the best among other institutions in Ethiopia and is going to offer AAiT graduates scholarship opportunities this year.
