A resource center for female students established at the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAiT) was inaugurated on March 6, 2018.

Established at a total cost of 1.4 million birr acquired from the UNFPA, the center is furnished with forty desktop computers.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony organized by the AAU HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office and Africa AIDS Initiative International, President of the AAU, Professor Tassew W/Hanna noted that the resource center is a maiden undertaking of its kind that sees to increase the academic achievement of female students in the University.

The President underscored that building on women’s engagement is vital towards meeting the University’s goals and that the university is working enthusiastically to boost the engagement of the demographic unit in every activity.

During the inaugural ceremony, UNFPA Country Representative, Bettina Mass pointed out that the potential of a country depends on its youth; hence building their capacity in terms of skill and knowledge can be a breakthrough in the holistic development agenda. “Therefore well equipped, resourceful and workable environment is significantly relevant to the youth, especially for female students and their safety needs,” she said.

As part of its effort to bolster women empowerment and involvement in every level of the decision making hierarchy, the AAU offers scholarship to 200 plus students every year. The university also hires valedictorian female students from each college to increase the number of female academics in the university.
