“Scholarship Award Signifies the China-Ethiopia Everlasting Friendship”

Addis Ababa University (AAU) Office of Academic Vice President organized China-Ethiopia Friendship Scholarship Award ceremony at Ras Mekonnen Hall that signifies the everlasting friendship between the two countries on the 7th of March 2023.

Emebet Mulugeta (PhD), Academic Vice President of at AAU, addressed that the event was organized to appreciate and give recognition to the Government of China for awarding scholarship to Ethiopian students at different levels of study.

Professor Tassew Woldehanna, President of AAU, remarked that the relationship between China and Ethiopia is long-standing and has multi-faceted approach. The relationship recognized on the day’s event was the most crucial one deliberated in the education sector, he added.

Education is the key to solve any country’s problems. AAU appreciates the contribution that the Chinese Government has offered so far to support the sector through different incentives including scholarship in different fields of study, and believes that this cooperation will continue with strong commitment in the future,” Prof. Tassew said.

Mr. Shen Qinmin, the Minister counselor, China Embassy, on his message said that cooperation between nations builds strong coordination among their cultures and other mutually benefiting areas. The long-standing relationship between the governments of China and Ethiopia is intertwined in many ways, he added.

Education helps to understand the similarities and differences between cultures. Just like China has a number of cultures, Ethiopia is also signified with many cultural expressions being tangible and intangible ones. Acquaintance of these cultures is very important for the people of the two countries. The Chinese government will do everything possible to strengthen this relationship,” he intensified.

Three students among those who received the educational support: Bethelhem Fikru (Ph.D. candidate), Solomon Wondimu (UG student) and Sisay Gebeyaw (Postgraduate), forwarded their thanks on behalf of their beneficiary friends and themselves for the Chinese Embassy awarded them scholarship certificates at the event.
