AAU Launches Consultative Discussion with Various Bank Officials

Addis Ababa University (AAU) held a discussion and consultation forum work together with various bank executives at the College of Business and Economics on October 5, 2023.

Samuel Kifle (PhD), Interim President of Addis Ababa University, said that the main purpose of the consultation meeting is to exchange recommendations with various bank managers on how far AAUcan continue to work together with the financial industry.

Dr. Samuel pointed out that the government believes in the need to gradually free universities from governmental and any other external pressures including administrative interference; this helps them to generate their own resources and manage themselves appropriately.

He further said that AAU, which is located in Addis Ababa, the capital of Africa and the seat of the country’s government, is the Ethiopia’s highest educational institution that the government has officially initiated the task of autonomization for it.

The graduates we get from the universities should be productive and effective; the higher education institutions should work closely with the employing industries and stakeholders,” Dr. Samuel finally stated.

Hailu Elias (PhD), Dean at the College of Business and Economics, noted that there is strong collaboration and linkage, in the progress of the autonomy, with the industry which boosts its efficacy and efficiency, and significantly contribute to increasing national development and global competitiveness.

The transition to autonomy will fetch full academic and research freedom that is substantive autonomy and it will create a supportive and strong leadership and governance system which is referred as procedural autonomy,” Hailu stated.
