Building Construction Design Agreement with At-Con Engineering

Addis Ababa University (AAU) signed building construction agreement with At-Con Engineering and Architectural Consultancy Plc. at the Main Campus today, 27th of January 2021.

Professor Tassew Weldehanna, President of Addis Ababa University, said during the agreement that a high quality standard design and to be completed within the appropriate time is required, as AAU is a research and graduate university intended to qualify internationally proven standards.

According to the information from Professor Abebe Dinku, Vice President for Institutional Development of AAU, the purpose of the design is to construct multifaceted building at the legendry Pharmacy Compound, intended to be used under Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAiT).

“There are a number of buildings which have been serving for more than sixty years in the compound. As most of them are still functioning beyond their serving age, now is the time to replace them. Those not to be demolished will be made fit to the new building in any ways,” Prof Abebe said.

As Prof Abebe stated, the design is to be completed within three months in this Ethiopian Fiscal Year and construction is to start immediately probably by the next Fiscal Budget.

AAU is currently running more than 30 construction projects found at different stages:  under construction, restoration, bidding and design agreement processes, Prof Abebe finally added.

Mrs. Tsige Araya, Manager for At-Con Engineering and Architectural Consultancy Plc., on her part stated that the company is well experienced proven in designing and constructing similar projects with that of AAU.

Mentioning that the project has two basements and 15 floors, may be either to be risen or diminished through design trimming, Tsige said, her company is committed to complete the design with the desired feature and quality using up-to-date technology and close discussions as well as continuous learning from AAU abundant scholars and experts.
