Signing MoU on Legal Awareness Creation Program

Addis Ababa University (AAU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three Federal organizations for legal awareness creation on students at a program held in Hilton Addis Ababa Hotel on the 15th of May 2021.

As Mrs. Meaza Ashenafi, President for the Federal Supreme Court, stated in the program, the Office has planned a major television program on legal and justice issues, and awareness raising plan in schools to improve public awareness of the law.

According to Mrs. Meaza, by educating citizens about the rule of law, they will be more aware of their rights, be protected from crime, and strengthen their relationships with the judiciary.

Raising awareness of the rule of law not only strengthens citizens’ confidence in the justice system, but also helps them fulfill their constitutional rights and obligations, she said.

The Federal Supreme Court in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and Addis Ababa University, plans to implement a legal awareness program in educational institutions, Meaza stated.

“To that end, a memorandum of understanding was drawn up, and committee members from the four institutions, commented on the draft document,” Mrs. Meaza said finally.

Panellists from five organizations, i.e. AAU School of Law, Federal Supreme Court, Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, Attorney General, and Federal Police Commission forwarded their views and discussion within participants resumed based on the panellists’ ideas.
