A football team for Addis Ababa University (AAU) led by the Office of the Students’ Dead of the University won a silver medal in the Ethiopian Champion of Champions’ Tournament organized by Ethiopian Football Federation held at Hawassa Stadium from 3^rd-23^rd July 2022.

Habtamu Hailemichael, coach of the team stated that his team was the best in performance and endurance of the other teams.

Ermiyas Moges, captain of the team, said that the tournament opens the door of opportunities for all of the players, and appreciated the AAU management for overall supports given to the team.

The AAU football team on its championship journey finished top in the first round with winning two games and one game draw to join the quarter final; scored three goals to null against its opponent team to proceed to the semi-final, and won two goals to one to join the final for the cup competition.

Finally, the team finished with draw but lost the cup with penalty shootout and was awarded the silver medal of the tournament on the 23^rd of July 2022.

Shibiru Temesgen (PhD), Dean of students, admired the team for its victorious journey and motivated the team members as well one day before the final game, and he attended the medal award ceremony in the next day.

Tizazu Mossie (PhD), Associate Student Dean of AAU, on his remarks stated that the University has three additional sports teams: Athletics, Volleyball and Basketball Teams which participate in the Ethiopian Champions.

The tournament held in Hawassa was organized by the Ethiopian Football Federation to qualify those teams to first league competition.  Moreover, the Federation has three league football competitions: first league, second league and the premier league. Those teams which rank 1-3 in the Championships qualify to the next level of the leagues.
