AAU pays tribute to Gambella attack victims

Addis Ababa University paid tribute to the people killed by South Sudan gunmen in the April 16, 2016 Gambella attack in a ceremony held on the afternoon of April 22, 2016.

AAU higher officials, deans, directors and students joined hands in condemning the act of killing innocent civilians and appreciated the measures being taken by the government.

Jeilu Oumer (PhD), AAU’s Academic Vice President, in his address after a minute of silence expressed the university’s condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Gambellaand all Ethiopians.

He further complemented measures being taken by the government to rescue innocent mothers and children held in captivity.

Tesfalem Tizazu, AAU Student representative, similarly condemned the killing of innocent Ethiopians in Gambella and assured fellow Ethiopian students from the region that all AAU students are by their sides in this saddening moment.

An Armed Group from South Sudan attacked and killed 208 people in Gambella regional state of Ethiopia on April 16, 2016. The armed group also abducted children during the attack.
