AAU runs 9th book fair

The Addis Ababa University Press has run the yearly “Addis Book Fair” for the 9th time. Officially opened on March 9, 2015, the book fair was open for seven days, featuring marketing of books and other side events on the University’s main campus.

 The Addis Ababa University Press has availed five newly published and several other republished books on the fair. According to Yacob Arsano (PhD), Director, AAU Press, each year exhibitors are showing more interest in taking part and their number is increasing, this year’s book fair engaging 65 bookstores, publishers and distributors.

Tassew W/Hanna (PhD), Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, opening the fair with remarks has noted that further to its effort of satisfying the growing demand of societies’ need for knowledge, the University Press has to better contribute its share in the coming years. He has further promised the University Management will do all possible for the betterment and advancement of the Press.

 The Addis Ababa University Press, the only and the prestigious university press in the country, has been organizing the yearly book fair since 2006 and it invites publishers and book stores to display and sell their products. Exhibitors bring in all sorts of books: fictional, historical, educational, spiritual, dictionaries, children’s books, school textbooks, reference books, college textbooks, academic and general books and more. Publications are marketed with 25%-50% discount and affordable prices. The book fair is believed to have a greater impact in fostering and encouraging reading culture among people of all age groups.

 The Addis Ababa University Press (AAUP) was established in 1967 with the objective of serving the publishing and distribution needs of Addis Ababa University community. To-date the Press has published a number of valuable books in various fields of knowledge. Many of the AAUP publications have been internationally acclaimed for their high academic standard. In view of Ethiopia’s on-going massive expansion of tertiary education, the AAUP is expected to play a vital role in publishing textbooks, reference and teaching materials, cutting-age research outputs, etc.

 The AAUP encourages and welcomes manuscripts from AAU faculty as well as from the scholarly communities in the country and abroad. As can be attested from the publication track record of the AAUP there is an encouraging growth in terms of titles, diversity of fields and the quality of publication.
